    They say what goes up must come down. But for a long time, that hasn’t been true when it comes to pharmacist salaries. Median hourly wages have continued to increase for pharmacists over the past couple decades. But the 2018 Pharmacy Compensation Survey, a few details of which are available for free on the PharmacyWeek blog, shows at least some evidence that pharmacist salaries have hit a ceiling and might be heading downward in the days to come.

  • Harley-Davidson move shows the consequences of EU tariffs

    To counter the rise of European Union (EU) tariffs from 6 percent to 31 percent on U.S.-made products, including Harley-Davidson motorcycles, the famed company is shifting some production overseas. "These tariffs, which became effective June 22, 2018, were imposed in response to the tariffs the U.S. imposed on steel and aluminum exported from the EU to the U.S.," Harley-Davidson announced in a filing. In early May, the Trump administration announced the tariffs of foreign-made aluminum and steel to enhance U.S. economic and national security.

    Some people in the beauty industry want "anti-aging" to go the way of the dodo. In light of Allure magazine announcing in last year's September issue that it would no longer publish the term anti-aging, it makes me wonder if this will become the new normal for the industry. The magazine stated that aging is a "celebration of growing into your own skin," so we shouldn't see it as a "battle" and something that needs a remedy. But does the term really stand for something negative or is it just a way to clearly state which skin care goals you're after?

  • More big brands join the war on plastic

    The effort against single-use plastic straws has officially become more than a skirmish and is now an all-out war, as several more major brands have decided to do away with them in their businesses. SeaWorld Entertainment, in an effort to protect the environment, has removed all single-use straws and plastic bags from the company’s 12 theme parks. The Orlando-based company made the announcement June 8. SeaWorld, while leading in this effort, is not alone.

  • Ikea to ditch single-use plastics by 2020 as part of sustainability push

    Ikea announced on June 7 that it would phase out all one-time use plastic products from both stores and restaurants by 2020. Not only does this include the products used in the cafe and store, but it means they will not be selling those products on their shelves. You won’t find freezer bags, garbage bags and the like at Ikea anymore. This big announcement is part of a much broader sustainability plan for the Swedish company.
