For the companion animal, that environment consists of the owner's home, property and wherever that person routinely takes the animal and the associated animal health, behavior and bond components. Within that complex environment, owner beliefs about animal medical vs. behavioral problems can differ considerably.

Linchi Kwok EducationDid you ever find it challenging to decide the right career for yourself? I did when I was a student and even later in my career. The reality is that many of us, especially when we were college students, had trouble making decisions regarding our major(s) and our potential career paths. Some of us may still experience such a struggle even after we have completed a degree program. I worked with Drs. Ning-Kuang Chuang at Kent State University and Patrick Lee at Cal Poly Pomona on a project entitled: "Assisting students with career decision-making difficulties: Can career decision-making self-efficacy and career decision-making profile help?" The full paper was published in the Journal of Hospitality, Leisure, Sport, & Tourism Education.

Anne Rose Business Management, Services & Risk ManagementAll manipulators are the same. Just the circumstances and the victims change. You hire an employee who seems to be an asset. She’s friendly and easy-going. Always has a smile. She frequently takes the initiative to create projects and implement them. Wow, what a go-getter, you think. But perhaps after a couple of months, it begins to dawn on you that while she’s great at thinking up fun little projects to keep herself busy, she’s doing everything and anything except the work you assign her to.

Mentoring, a beacon in the dark for young leaders
Sheilamary Koch EducationRecently, my 15-year-old daughter, an emerging environmental activist, told me of her first mentoring experience at a youth summit she attended. In a nutshell, a college student involved in activism on her campus was assigned to a group of three younger students. She began by sharing how she’d experienced little support for her ideas in the area she grew up, then encouraged the others to share about their lives and aspirations. Often, mentors act as metaphorical beacons in the darkness for mentees aiming to accomplish things outside the scope of what people around them are doing.

Die daily and live better
Lisa Cole Mental HealthcareFor those of you who are yoga aficionados, you are familiar with Savasana or Corpse Pose. Yes, that's corpse, as in dead. You know what that looks like. I dealt with corpses, tragically, in high school, viewing my beloved dead swim teammates at the funeral home. Little did I know then that this horrific car accident would set the trajectory for the rest of my life. My career and life have been informed by death. And this is what I have learned.
