The 2017 Porsche 968?
Jeff Coe Transportation Technology & AutomotiveWell, not quite. But in case you haven't heard, Porsche has decided to bring its first, inline four-cylinder model since the 968 to the United States. And guess what? I have one in my driveway! A new 2017 Porsche Macan 2.0 Turbo. A little background first. For daily drivers, we have a lot of Audis in our family. I've had a couple of A4s, now an A5, and my wife drives a Q5 — all powered by Audi's 2.0 Turbo. The 2.0T is a great power plant, excellent performance and mileage, easy to work on and maintain.

Michael Brown Transportation Technology & AutomotiveThe General Motors "Motorama" held at New York City's Waldorf-Astoria hotel in January of 1953 was extremely successful. In a film featuring highlights of the event, a narrator breathlessly intoned, "The Chevrolet Corvette, and the other customized models, are not for sale, yet. They're here to give tangible form to the drawing board ideas of today, out of which may grow the shape of things to come ..."

Thou shalt not covet — even Porsches
Dave Story Transportation Technology & AutomotiveI love cars, motorcycles, airplanes, even tractors — anything with wheels and a motor. I don't know why. I did not grow up in a gearhead family or anything close to it. As a 12-year-old kid, I remember sitting in front of our 30-inch black-and-white TV watching automotive events on the Wide World of Sports and trying to draw what I saw.

From pig farm to Corvette collection
Michael Brown Transportation Technology & AutomotiveIf one day you find yourself in a Wal-Mart-size building in Florida and hear "cleanup on Aisle 3" over the loudspeaker, it's most likely transmission fluid or motor oil rather than a spilled carton of milk that needs to be mopped up. This particular building in Punta Gorda once was a Wal-Mart — all 100,000 square feet of it. But should there be any spilled fluids, they would come from one of about 200 classic cars that are on display at Rick Treworgy's Muscle Car City.

Waiting for an outlaw
Irwin Greenstein Transportation Technology & AutomotiveFor most of us working stiffs, the American outlaw possesses the heart-pounding cache of roads not taken. Steve McQueen, Clint Eastwood, Jason Statham, Vin Diesel and other "bad boys" have created personas that spun gold for them and exhilaration for their audiences. After a day at the office, we felt empowered watching them reshape our world through their own brand of mayhem, compassion and courage.
