Denver has been all over the news recently with the grand opening of its first marijuana-friendly hotel — NATIV Hotel. Ever since Colorado and Washington voters approved the legalization of recreational marijuana in 2012, the two states have witnessed a rise in pot tourism. With Oregon and Alaska also passing recreational marijuana laws, pot tourism is becoming a rapidly growing travel segment in the U.S.

  • Tipping etiquette differences across the world

Linchi Kwok Travel, Hospitality & Event Management

I visited Auckland, New Zealand, earlier this month for the 13th APacCHRIE (Asia-Pacific Council on Hotel, Restaurant and Institutional Education) Conference. Because I thought New Zealanders would share similar values and customs with their friends in the U.S., I did not do any research about the etiquette in New Zealand — even though it was my first trip to the country.

Ryan Clark Transportation Technology & Automotive

One of passenger rail’s lasting downers following Hurricane Katrina is the loss of Amtrak service from New Orleans to areas east, along the Gulf Coast. Many remain unaware of this, but these areas still lack connection by passenger rail. Those who are aware find themselves in a state of disbelief. Recently, citizens and politicians in New Orleans and Orlando, Florida, have expressed desire for the return of that portion of Amtrak's Sunset Limited route. CSX Railroad agrees, and so does Amtrak. Why has nothing come to fruition?

Mark Huber Transportation Technology & Automotive

For years, we’ve heard much about the coming helicopter pilot shortage, brought on in no small part by the unwinding of the U.S. military to its smallest size since before World War II. Steve and Diane Owens Recreation & Leisure

Diane and I learned years ago life is too short; it’s not a race. In our motor home, we have learned to slow down.

Linchi Kwok Travel, Hospitality & Event Management

I was in Auckland, New Zealand, recently for the 13th APacCHRIE Conference. During my stay, I had a chance to experience sustainable tourism in New Zealand. • UAE airports, airlines poised to continue explosive growth

Matt Falcus Transportation Technology & Automotive

Controversy between the U.S. and Middle East carriers may be rife, but the explosive growth of the region's airports and airlines is not showing any signs of slowing over the next decade.
