My ideal state park has multiple trails with variation in the trails so I can hike a longer or difficult trail when I am in the mood or a short and easy trail when I want a short hike. I am not a hardcore hiker and don’t go on overnight hikes but I sometimes hike a longer hike of several hours. If you enjoy hiking, here are six state parks that are worth a visit.

Collegiate athletes encounter new career possibilities
Sheilamary Koch Sports & FitnessWhile over 480,000 students in the United States participate in college sports per NCAA estimates, the odds of a collegiate athlete attaining professional or Olympic status are extremely low. Baseball players have the best chance to make a career of their sport with a 9.1 percent conversion rate between college and professional levels. The percentage is closer to 1.5 for college football players and even lower for those who play basketball, volleyball and soccer. Still, college students have plenty to gain from the time and effort they invest in playing on a college team.

Strength training comes out on top over cardio for heart health
Tammy Hinojos Sports & FitnessIt has long been accepted and taught that regular cardiovascular workouts are good for cardiovascular health. And they are. But a new study asserts that regular strength training is even better for your heart than more aerobic activities like walking and cycling. A survey of 4,000 adults revealed that static activity, such as strength training, had stronger links to reduced risk of cardiovascular diseases than dynamic activity, such as walking and cycling. But before you tell your patients to hang up their walking shoes and park their bikes in favor of free weights and dumbbells, keep reading.

William Soulé Sports & FitnessPrinceton’s Jake Mayer may only be a sophomore, but he is already stepping into a leadership role. His 11th-place finish at the Georgetown Intercollegiate proved to be crucial in helping Princeton to its first tournament win in three years. However, his biggest impact is coming off the golf course. Mayer was at a tournament in high school when he first heard of the Folds of Honor Military Tribute Program. The program gives high school or collegiate golf teams the opportunity to honor a fallen or wounded American soldier by having a team member carry a golf bag displaying the name, rank, and branch of service of the soldier being honored.

Why everyone should sign up for a physical challenge at least once
Heidi Dawson Sports & FitnessWe all know one of those people who seem to always be entering this race, that event and undertaking yet another challenge. And often they’re asking for sponsorship. Let’s face it, it can be pretty annoying having to always put your hand in your pocket for their latest escapade, and even more annoying hearing all about their training, injuries, personal sacrifices and, of course, the post-event day rundown. However, if you’ve never taken part in such an event, be it a race, endurance event or challenge, then here’s why I think you should!
