The latest Culinary + Cocktail Trend Forecast survey from Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants says that inventive craft mocktails are the newest attractions to many menus. As more people move towards spirited beverages that do not lead to a hangover the following day, mocktails and "lighter" adult-only drinks are creating a new beverage trend. These are lower in calories and fit in perfectly with the no- and lower-alcohol beverage movement.

    A new report, the 2019 Healthcare Consumer Study, was commissioned by Cedar to identify trends in the financial experience for patients. Results show one-third (34%) of U.S. healthcare consumers say they have experienced a medical bill going into collections. However, most of these outstanding bills were not the result of astronomical statement amounts. For the most part, Cedar found, these bills in collection were the result of poor billing practices on the part of the practice or healthcare organization — or so patients thought.

    On Sept. 23, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) published a final rule that simplifies hardship withdrawals for 401(k) and 403(b) plan participants. The final rule substantially mirrors the IRS’ proposed regulations — reflecting changes made by the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017, the Bipartisan Budget Act of 2018, the Pension Protection Act of 2006, and the Heroes Earnings Assistance and Relief Tax Act of 2008. Some changes are optional; others are mandatory and must be implemented by Jan. 1, 2020.
