To answer that question, we polled Americans on how stressful they find Thanksgiving travel — and what they would do to avoid it altogether.

New Orleans’ new terminal puts it in the big leagues
Matt Falcus Transportation Technology & AutomotiveLouis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport took a major step forward on Nov. 6 when it opened its new passenger terminal following six years of construction. Built on the north side of the airport, the new terminal completely replaces the aging terminals on the south side of the runways, which were consistently the focus of poor passenger opinions and failed to live up to the expectations of a modern airport and famous global destination. Unlike the 50-year-old terminal it replaces, the new facility at New Orleans offers high ceilings, plenty of light and modern amenities.

US payrolls add 128,000 jobs; unemployment rate rises to 3.6%
Seth Sandronsky Business Management, Services & Risk ManagementIn October, total U.S. nonfarm payrolls added 128,000 new hires, as the unemployment rate rose to 3.6% from 3.5% in September, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Employment growth has averaged 167,000 per month in 2019. Federal government employment dropped by 17,000 in October, as temporary workers ended their assignments for the 2020 Census. Further, the now-resolved General Motors strike reduced automotive employment in October.

The blame game surrounding Boeing’s 737 Max debacle

We can directly blame a company’s financial priorities, company employees who decided to leave information out of training manuals, an agency that watched its inspection autonomy wither over decades, or investors pressuring Boeing to compete with France’s Airbus. Or, we can blame all of the above. The international public and crash victims’ families have initiated investigations, released a report, and are pursuing legal action. Doha Hamad International plans two-phase expansion
Matt Falcus Transportation Technology & AutomotiveDoha’s Hamad International Airport, currently ranked fourth-best in the world by Skytrax, is set to continue its push for dominance in the Gulf region following the announcement of the next stage of its expansion at the Cityscape Qatar event held near the end of October. Despite the ongoing blockade of flights between Qatar and both Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, which were among the busiest out of Doha, the airport is ready to increase its capacity and add major passenger-pleasing amenities to help it stand out from the crowd.

UAW strike ends with ratified agreement, but 3 GM plants close

Matisons Transportation Technology & AutomotiveOn Oct. 25, the United Automobile, Aerospace, and Agricultural Implement Workers of America (UAW) achieved a new, four-year contract with General Motors (GM) in a vote of 57% to 43%. During this time, UAW also ratified an Aramark janitorial contract at five GM Ohio and Michigan locations. This latest strike produced mixed results that were highly dependent on workers’ locations. While outsourcing and plant downsizing keep manufacturing jobs below optimal national levels, GM workers will largely enjoy improvements in labor conditions.

Travel2020: Qantas vies for operation of world’s longest nonstop…
Lark Gould Transportation Technology & AutomotiveAfter Qantas completed a recent test trip in advance of the launch of the world's longest nonstop flight linking New York and Sydney, new attention was given to the development of aircraft that can manage long distances comfortably and the management of passengers and crew to get through these lengthy flights without health concerns. The flight, which took off from New York JFK, ran 19 hours and 16 minutes but carried only 50 passengers and no cargo. It used a Boeing 787-9 aircraft, but the carrier, with the full weight of passengers, cargo and fuel, was not designed for the job.
