  • North American cannabis industry set to undergo a period of consolidation…

    Bambi Majumdar Retail

2018 saw myriad acquisitions in the cannabis industry, which slowed down somewhat last year. 2020 will likely be the year of consolidation. Investor euphoria from 2018 and early 2019 has led to current travails for both the emerging Canadian and U.S. marijuana industries. Some have likened this period to the internet boom of the early 2000s and the inevitable growing pains of a new industry. In Canada, legal retailers face a continued robust and lower-priced illegal cannabis market. The U.S., on the other hand, has suffered from oversupply and a lack of regulation, which have driven down prices.

  • How the coronavirus revealed China’s importance to global travel

Bambi Majumdar Travel, Hospitality & Event Management

China is essential to the global economy, and with the coronavirus bringing the country to a grinding halt, the travel industry is feeling the repercussions. The SARS epidemic in 2002-03 and the swine flu crisis in 2009 made some impacts on global tourism, but nothing like the coronavirus. Since those years, the Chinese economy has grown and established more global connections. The International Monetary Fund estimated in 2019 that China alone accounted for 39% of global economic expansion.

    Cindy Belt Recreation & Leisure

The Four Corners area is an amazing and special place. This is the area where Utah, Colorado, Arizona, and New Mexico all meet. You can find national parks and monuments here, along with relatively unknown trails and museums in this region. At the center of this area is Four Corners Monument. This is a fun stop for a photo. It is not a national monument but is run by the Navajo Nation with a $5 per person admission fee. There are Native American vendors here if you are interested.

  • How being present can change — and possibly save — your life

    Victoria Fann Mental Healthcare

Sit down in any cafe, ride in an elevator, look in people's cars when they are stopped at a stoplight or observe college students walking on campus, and you'll notice one thing: the majority are checking their phones and not focusing on the present moment. As so much of our lives is now dominated by screen time, we've moved far away from living in the present. Even when not looking at a screen, many of us are lost in thought thinking about something that happened in the past or worrying about something that might happen in the future.

  • Combat accuracy vs. precision

Mike Ox Law Enforcement, Defense & Security

One of the arguments against practicing to shoot one-hole groups is that you won't have time to do this under stress. That's a fine argument, but it's one-dimensional and conflicts with the very training that teaches it. Oftentimes, the same training that teaches that 8-inch groups in sterile training conditions are adequate also teaches that you should fire two rounds to center-of-mass and, if that doesn't stop the threat, to shoot one round to the head. The problem is movement, stress, speed, and unstable shooting positions will cause your shot groups in a surprise self-defense situation to be at least twice as big as your groups in practice.

  • Beneath the Arizona skies: A Colorado River road trip

Steve and Diane Owens Recreation & Leisure

It was a gray morning as we left Sierra Vista and the headed north up the San Pedro Valley. The sun was just beginning to rise above the Dragoon Mountains, casting a warm glow on our SUV. Interstate 10 this Sunday morning was light of traffic all the way to Interstate 8. We are not fond of I-10 north of Tucson, a hazardous three-lane highway in many places, with most people driving like crazy fools. This morning, the fools are still sleeping and we feel safe.
