Today’s police graduates face huge challenges
Dr. Denise A. Valenti Law Enforcement, Defense & SecurityOver the last few months, graduation ceremonies across the U.S. celebrated the newest generation of men and women in blue. These young officers will be added to the ranks of an estimated 792,000 brothers and 108,000 sisters across the nation. The newly-sworn officers completed weeks of intense and comprehensive training. Many depended upon the confidence and support of loved ones to make it through. Mike Ox Law Enforcement, Defense & SecurityWhen you think about training to use a firearm to stop a lethal threat, it's healthy to think of it as serious business, because it is. But that doesn't mean we can't have fun along the way — or, more importantly, that we shouldn't have fun along the way.

Know the basics when using a large-diameter hose
Frank R. Myers Law Enforcement, Defense & SecurityBack in the day — before the introduction of the large-diameter hose (LDH) — we would use two lines of hose to supply our trucks. One was a 2.5-inch and the other was a 3-inch, laid out simultaneously to the spud intakes of the truck. We had a procedure of always putting hose clamps on each hose. Then, when the driver was ready, he would open the hose clamps and then the gate at the spud to get the incoming supply of water for the truck.
