Are your front-line employees working two or three jobs to make ends meet? The American Hotel and Lodging Association (AH&LA) needs your help to insure that employees in hospitality industries at not forced into part-time status due to the Affordable Care Act.

According to AH&LA, 178 million Americans — more than half of the population received voluntary employer-based healthcare insurance prior to the Affordable Care Act. Since then, the new definition of full-time employment (30 hours) has reduced that number and hurt the take-home pay of millions of hard-working front-line workers.

The result has been employers having to restructure their workforce to offset costs. Hard-working employees are being forced into working two or more part-time jobs. According to AH&LA, "This new 30-hour definition is hurting individuals that need as many hours as possible to support their families. Instead of benefiting workers, this provision is harming them."

This call to action involves the campaign against 30 hours per week constituting, full-time employee status. AH&LA and its eight partner organizations, listed below, are launching the campaign to highlight the problems encountered by everyday employees by the 30-hour work week in hotels and other related industries.

The campaign, "More Time For Full Time," asks the U.S Senate to take action to restore the traditional 40-hour workweek. In April, the House of Representatives passed legislation supporting the traditional workweek. It is now up to the hospitality industry to lobby the Senate to pass supporting legislation to make it law and provide relief for front-line employees.
