They represent some of the most memorable characters on four wheels. They are the Porsches of Hollywood. Even if some of these are stunt cars that aren't quite Porsches on the inside, there is no substitute on the outside.

Here are the 10 Porsches that totally eclipsed Hollywood's brightest stars.

10. No. 11, the 1957 718 RSK from "The Killers"

Johnny, the racecar driver, calmly accepts his assassination after losing what mattered most to him: driving. This is undeniably the best adaptation of Hemingway's terse short story.

Stars who got eclipsed: Lee Marvin, Angie Dickinson and Ronald Reagan

9. The 1976 911 Targa from "Stander"

The hero is a South African cop turned fun-loving criminal, who falls in love with his stolen canary yellow Targa convertible. Even though this was a true story, the most unbelievable plot point is that he would just crash it and walk away.

Stars who got eclipsed: Thomas Jane and Deborah Kara Unger

8. Tina, the 1978 996 series 911 from "Gone in 60 Seconds"

A host of great cars are featured in both the shabby original and the big-budget remake. The 1974 DIY classic has a 911 Targa in a cameo during the 40-minute chase scene. The remake fills Long Beach with Porsches from the opening race with Tina to the four girls on the impossible list:

  • 2000 Porsche Boxster aka Marsha
  • 1961 Porsche Speedster aka Natalie
  • 1988 Porsche 959 aka Virginia
  • 1997 Porsche 911 Twin Turbo aka Tanya

Stars who got eclipsed: Nicholas Cage and Angelina Jolie

7. Long Tail, the custom 917 from "Le Mans"

This partial-documentary of the 1970 Le Mans covered the race where two 917s took the top slots. Then the mythic 600 horsepower 917 vanished for three decades as collectors scoured Europe. It recently surfaced in a shed in the French countryside and sold for $1.3 million.

Star who got eclipsed: Steve McQueen

6. Gary, the 1984 928S from "Weird Science"

It's a crime for a precision instrument to be driven like this, if you can call that driving. Named for his owner, this fantasy car leaves skid marks all over the Chicago suburbs.

Stars who got eclipsed: Anthony Michael Hall, Robert Downey, Jr. and Bill Paxton

5. The 1994 964 series 911 Turbo 3.6 from "Bad Boys"

"$80,000 for this car and you ain't got no damn cup holder?" Sorry, Marcus. We all have priorities. The Turbo chose to prioritize zero to 60 in four seconds on Miami's A1A over Big Gulps.

Stars who got eclipsed: Will Smith and Martin Lawrence

4. The 1957 356 A Speedster from "48 Hours"

Eddie Murphy is a lucky man. He got to cruise around San Francisco in a Speedster for this movie and "Another 48 Hours." Even if it is a 1977 Intermeccanica replica, it's still a sweet ride.

Stars who got eclipsed: Nick Nolte and Eddie Murphy

3. Wendy's 1955 550 Spyder from "Sin City"

Wendy is one of the few survivors in the fictional Basin City, in part due to her driving skills. Only 90 of these Spyders were made, and last year one sold for $3.7 million. Wendy's back for the sequel, "A Dame to Kill For," so we should be getting another look at her car when the film debuts this weekend.

Stars who got eclipsed: Jaime King, Mickey Rourke and Rutger Hauer

2. Sally, the 2002 996 series 911 Carrera from "Cars"

Sally outclasses every other car in Radiator Springs, even the chimeric Lightning McQueen. Pixar specified that she carried a 3,596 cc flat-6 engine pumping 320 horsepower at 6,800 rpm. Hopefully, she will finally get to open up in "Cars 3," the sequel now in development.

Stars who got eclipsed: Owen Wilson, Paul Newman and Michael Keaton

1. U-Boat, the 1979 928 from "Risky Business"

The most heartbreaking scene is when one of the four 928s used on set drops into Lake Michigan from a rotted pier on Belmont Harbor. Do not panic. No actual Porsches were harmed during the filming of this picture. The car that prompted the classic line "Who's the U-Boat commander?” was merely a gutted shell.

Stars who got eclipsed: Tom Cruise, Rebecca De Mornay, Joe Pantoliano and Curtis Armstrong
