Droning on: Amazon unveils its flight plan
Wednesday, January 20, 2016Did you forget a gift? No worries, just get it flown to the party. Left your toothpaste at home on a business trip? Get it air-dropped to the hotel. Your phone case broke? You get the idea. Digital retailer Amazon is planning to use drones to fly packages less than five pounds to its customers in about 30 minutes, making instant gratification a little closer to instant. The service, called Amazon Prime Air, was announced in 2015, and details of the project were released Jan. 19.

Severe weather devastation highlights importance of preparedness
Monday, January 18, 2016As 2015 came to a close, the U.S. was devastated by a slew of tornadoes and floods, causing an estimated $2 billion in damages. In North Texas, a severe weather system spun off several tornadoes Dec. 26, including an EF-4 tornado that caused widespread destruction in Garland and Rowlett, suburbs on the east side of Dallas. Meanwhile, the melting snow from heavy winter storms in the northern U.S. overwhelmed rivers and tributaries, causing flooding along the Mississippi River in Missouri and Mississippi.
