Swamp cabbage, anyone?
Tuesday, March 17, 2015When you winter in the warmer areas of our country, you can pretty much expect some type of festival every weekend. Festivals in our area range from ethnic festivals to art-and-craft fairs to wine extravaganzas, to name a few. They are quite a popular activity, as thousands of people attend. Entertaining for us, it is a concessionaire's dream.

Never been to an RV show? Here are 5 reasons you should go
Tuesday, March 03, 2015If you have never gone to an RV show, you don't know what you're missing. RV shows offer a one-stop shop where you can compare styles and brands of RVs, pick up wonderful products to make RV life more comfortable, watch demonstrations to teach you about RV items, find a myriad of repair services to fix things up in your RV, and give you numerous choices of RV parks in which to spend your travels.

The Special Olympics from a Special Olympian’s point of view
Tuesday, February 17, 2015Our RVing travels have allowed us to meet some pretty amazing people. Below is an example of one special person whom we have the pleasure of calling our friend. He was one of the first people to welcome us to our new RV Park. Here he came, slowly riding his three-wheel bicycle down our street, directly to our driveway. He confidently knocked on our motorhome door. His compassionate eyes bore into ours as we stepped outside to meet him.

The comforts of living in a motorhome
Tuesday, February 03, 2015Living in a motorhome is quite an experience. It takes a little ingenuity and a lot of planning. We have done just that for the past several years and wouldn't trade it for anything in the world.

So you think you can full-time it?
Tuesday, January 20, 2015OK, so you've been RVing for several trips now. Traveling to new and exciting destinations proves to be so enjoyable that you think, "Hey, this is so awesome, I think I can do it full-time." Here are some things to consider before taking the plunge.

We do ulu, how ‘bout you?
Tuesday, January 06, 2015While traveling in our RV through Alaska, we were impressed with the resourcefulness of the Alaskan people. It was quite common to see piles of various items collected and stored outdoors in the yards around their homes to be used at a later time as the need for it arose.

Surprisingly, RV laundry facilities prove advantageous
Tuesday, December 09, 2014When we were looking to buy our motorhome, I always thought I wanted a built-in washer/dryer. It would be so convenient to have the ability to wash and dry our laundry whenever and wherever I wanted. Not having to save our quarters, not having to wait for an available unit during busy laundry days, and personal convenience were all arguments in favor of having our own.

There’s no place like home — your motorhome, that is
Friday, November 21, 2014We live in a motorhome. It's not the ordinary choice of shelter in which to live, but comfortable nonetheless. We enjoy the simple pleasures associated with this lifestyle. The mobility this lifestyle offers allows us the opportunity to travel from place to place, keeping our possessions with us at all times.

Crabbing on the Oregon coast is a remarkable experience
Tuesday, November 04, 2014I caught crabs on the Oregon coast — at least that's what my T-shirt says. And it's true, what a memorable and remarkable camping and fishing adventure to experience. It was somewhat challenging and required a little bit of luck, but it provided memories to last a lifetime.

Oops! Learn a lesson from these awkward RV mistakes
Monday, October 20, 2014We often learn our greatest lessons in life by making mistakes. For some reason, correcting those mistakes makes a memorable impression. Some mistakes are comparatively easy to fix, while others are quite difficult.

Shrimp boil lets RVers enjoy a unique camping camaraderie
Tuesday, October 07, 2014One activity we have found that all RVers seem to enjoy doing together is eating. Whether it's s'mores around a campfire, ice cream under a pavilion tent or potluck dinners inside a clubhouse, RVers gather around and participate. During a recent weekend camping trip, we decided to try something new. Since we had several packages of raw jumbo shrimp in our freezer, we decided to host a shrimp boil.

Motorhome living: The simple life
Monday, September 22, 2014We have chosen to live a rather unconventional lifestyle. We live in a "home on wheels" — a motorhome. Motorhome living is not for everybody. In fact, we certainly don't recommend this lifestyle for those who need to have a stationary home, but it certainly fits us to a tee.

Avenue of the Giants makes a giant impression
Tuesday, September 09, 2014Through our extensive travels in our motorhome, one place has made such a significant impression that I feel it should be a must-see on everyone's "bucket list." It's a place so unusual, so unspoiled, so profound, that I'm certain you will agree. Though we have seen many spectacular sights and experienced some pretty amazing things, we have found nothing quite as awe-inspiring as this — California's redwoods.

Visiting San Antonio without breaking the bank
Monday, August 25, 2014A motorhome trip to San Antonio makes a fun-filled vacation for everyone and meets all interests. Shows at Sea World, thrills at Six Flags Fiesta, relaxation at Splashdown, and cooling off at the Schlitterbahn Waterpark Resort seem to attract visitors by the thousands.

RVs are not just for camping anymore
Tuesday, August 19, 2014We use our recreational vehicle as often as we can. How else can we justify the expense of owning one? Although our motorcoach is a comfortable and desirable camping option, we enjoy using it on day trips and short excursions, as well.

Finding the solution to slide-out water pooling is a learning experience
Monday, June 30, 2014We have a large living room/dining area slide-out in our motorhome. We love the extra space it offers on the inside of our coach, but we have found a problem with it on the outside. The awning covering the slide-out seems to collect a large amount of water from rain or heavy dew. This water eventually runs down our windows, streaking them and occasionally leaking through the slide-out seam, getting our carpet and couch wet.

What do you look for in an RV campground?
Monday, June 02, 2014The list of basic things that RVers typically look for in a campground include level campsites, full hook-ups, affordable prices and campground amenities. But certain circumstances may also determine the campground in which the RVer chooses to stay — depending on the day of the week, the weather and the location.

Eek! A mouse in the house — or motor home, that is
Wednesday, May 21, 2014Back in 2009, we were on our annual trek to Florida via the coasts of North and South Carolina. We were in the midst of the remnants of Hurricane Ida from the south and a nor'easter developing along the coast. We had chilly temperatures, strong wind and sheets of rain coming at us from all directions.

Big Bend National Park offers a big surprise
Tuesday, April 15, 2014Through our travels in our motorhome, we've learned a lot about different parts of our beautiful country. One thing we've learned is that everything actually is a lot bigger in Texas — big ranches, big roadways, big cattle, big hats and Big Bend. Not knowing what to expect, we were quite surprised and pleased by Big Bend National Park.

Motorhome travel to the home of the Ice Classic
Monday, March 31, 2014Along our motorhome travels through Alaska, we came upon a quaint village located between Fairbanks and Denali National Park called Nenana. Nenana means "good place to camp between rivers" in Athabascan (native Alaskan). We took that meaning literally and decided to camp there.

How to make a portable clothesline for RVing
Monday, March 24, 2014Since we live in our motorhome about three-fourths of the year, traveling from place to place, we often find ourselves in need of a clothesline. Of course, the laundry facilities in most of the campgrounds we stay in have electric or gas dryers for our convenience.

10 essential items for your RV’s safety, functionality
Monday, February 24, 2014When we purchased our first motorhome, we were very happy with our decision. However, we were quite surprised to find out that our new motorhome did not come equipped with all of the essential items we needed.

Enjoyable campground activities enrich senior living
Monday, January 13, 2014When staying in a campground for an extended period of time, it's nice to have activities in which to participate. These can range from daily routines to weekly endeavors to special events occurring once or twice a month or once a season.

Santa Claus is alive and well at the North Pole — Alaska, that is
Monday, December 09, 2013While driving our RV through Alaska on our way to Fairbanks from Tok, we found ourselves in North Pole. Yes, there really is a North Pole, Alaska. The town was originally named because the townspeople were trying to entice a toy manufacturer to settle there. Even though that didn't happen, the town of North Pole not only survived, but thrived — in part because of RV travelers.

The little things make campground stays memorable
Monday, November 25, 2013We have been traveling in our motor home since 2006. Although we have not been RVing for all that long, comparatively speaking, we have camped in 49 states and several Canadian provinces, and we have accumulated over 60,000 miles on our odometer. Because we are retired, we have had the opportunity to visit several states more than once, often staying in the same campground we had previously stayed. Most campgrounds offer the same things, but particular campgrounds stood out in our minds for some reason. We wanted to stay in these campgrounds again; even driving "out of our way" to do so.

Employment opportunities for the motorhome lifestyle
Monday, November 18, 2013Traveling in our 36-foot motorhome has proven to be more enjoyable than we had ever anticipated. It has allowed us to visit 49 states comfortably. Through our travels, we have met many wonderful people at the campgrounds where we have stayed — retirees just like us, who are following our dreams and doing what we love to do.

Nothing beats a campfire-in-a-can when RVing
Monday, October 21, 2013How can we overcome a campfire ban? Try using one of my favorite camping supplies — a campfire-in-a-can. Though there are several varieties of this unique item from which to choose, they all incorporate the same idea.

The 3 C’s of RV living: Communication, cooperation and consideration
Monday, October 14, 2013When we decided to "motor home" it, we weren't quite sure what we were getting ourselves into. Of course, the allure of traveling and the excitement of our adventures were prominent in our minds. However, we had never camped before and weren't quite sure of what to expect during our first extended road trip. In fact, we had a Plan B to fall back on just in case things didn't work out for us.

Little comforts can enhance RV camping enjoyment
Monday, October 07, 2013Camping in an RV is one of the most enjoyable experiences we have ever done. Surrounding ourselves with spectacular views, breathing lungfuls of fresh air, and listening to birds chirping and brooks babbling all contribute to a fulfilling camping experience. Being able to appreciate these things in the comforts of our RV only enhances this experience. It's the little things that make camping comfortable and give us the feeling that it's just like home.

Tow or toad — That is the question
Monday, September 23, 2013I don't proclaim to be an expert about whether to use a tow bar or tow dolly when taking your extra vehicle along with you when you go RV-ing, but we have done it both ways, so I have personal experience. I also have an opinion on both of these types of towing; especially since we've "learned by our mistakes."
