Porsche’s electric past and future
Monday, August 21, 2017With increasingly strict government fuel and emissions restrictions around the globe, it is clear that an alternative fuel is likely the way of the future. Currently, it looks like electric vehicles are winning the war of the new way of powering the automobile. Even sports car companies are looking to move away from the 100 percent internal combustion engine.

How turbocharging changed Porsche forever
Monday, July 24, 2017The naturally aspirated flat-six has always had a special place in the hearts of Porsche purists. If the engine is cooled by God's good air, then it is even more heartwarming. The connection between man and machine is just more pure without forced induction.

Building the ultimate early 986 Porsche Boxster
Tuesday, June 13, 2017The 986 generation of the Porsche Boxster currently has an amazing value. Early cars in decent running condition from 1997-1999 can be purchased for as low as $5,000, with lower-mileage, well-maintained cars easy to find for about $7,500. For your money, you get a car that up to the A pillar looks almost exactly like a 996 generation 911. You also get a mid-engine roadster that has some of the best handling you can buy. It's a lot of vehicle for the money.

The history of eight-cylinder Porsches
Tuesday, May 09, 2017Porsche is known for flat-six engines, and it's no wonder why. Just think of the epic cars that have used the six-cylinder boxer configuration. Every production 911 has had a flat-six engine and, until recently, so did all Boxsters and Caymans, as did the 914/6. But Porsche has also made some awesome eight-cylinder engines.

Saving the unloved Porsche 924
Tuesday, April 11, 2017Until the late 1970s, Porsche had used two layouts for their vehicles, and every car had its engine in the rear or the middle. Beyond the placement of the power plant, these had always been cooled by God's good air. This all changed when the Porsche 924 first hit the market in 1976 as a 1977 model in the U.S.

Celebrating 20 years of the Porsche Boxster
Monday, February 13, 2017This year marks the 20th year of production of the Porsche Boxster. Over time, the mid-engined roadster has evolved into quite a machine. Before its release for the 1997 model year, the Boxster appeared at the 1993 Detroit Auto Show in concept form. The Boxster concept resembles the first-generation car quite a bit, but elements like the side air-intakes and seats and some of the lines were changed for the production car. Still, it does look like the final 1997 product.

How front-engine models saved Porsche
Monday, December 05, 2016Porsche wasn't always a major automotive manufacturer. Sure, the German manufacturer has made some of the best cars in the world, but in the mid-1970s, sales of the flagship 911 had started to slow. The publication of Ralph Nader's book, "Unsafe at Any Speed," also threatened the future of the rear-engined sports car. The book questioned the safety of the Chevrolet Corvair, a vehicle with the engine out back, and many in the automotive industry thought the layout itself could be banned.

Porsche Boxster 986 or 944 S2 — Which is the better purchase?
Monday, May 02, 2016The early Porsche Boxster (986) is quite a value on the used market. These days you can purchase one for about the same amount as a used Honda Civic, making it a tempting buy. Similarly, the Porsche 944 has been one of the best values in a used car from the marque. Of the 944 variants, the 944 S2 is often considered the best value for performance, reliability and price.

The winding road from Porsche’s 986 Boxster to the new 718 Boxster
Monday, March 07, 2016Porsche recently unveiled the 718 Boxster at the Geneva Motor Show. The new version of the roadster is more efficient yet more powerful than the 981 variant that it replaces. From the beginning, the Boxster has featured a mid-mounted flat-six power plant. However, the new 718 is the first Boxster to use a flat-four engine. The reason for the change is largely due to more strict government fuel economy regulations, although there is a performance and tuneability gain. But just how have we come to the 718?
